Helen Fitzroy has been appointed chairwoman of Miners’ Promise, an independent not-for-profit that supports resources industry workers and their families.
Ms Fitzroy’s husband was killed in an underground mining accident at Norseman in 1991, prompting her to campaign for improved safety standards. She joined the Miners’ Promise board in 2010, and was named WA Local Hero in the Australia Day awards in 2012.
