Subiaco-based FIRM Construction has secured a $7.8 million state government contract to build a new helicopter landing pad at the Royal Perth Hospital.

Under the contract, awarded by the Department of Finance, FIRM will replace the old helicopter pad and complete associated works, such as developing a lift shaft extension and walkway gantry to permit access to and from the new pad.

The new helicopter pad is required to suit the new helicopters being used by the hospital, FIRM said.

The company beat two other submissions for the works, which are due to be completed by April 2021.

The contract comes a week after FIRM was awarded a $47 million contract with the Public Transport Authority of WA to build railcar and high-voltage testing facilities at the Bellevue rail depot, as part of the state government’s $1.2 billion Metronet railcar program.
