Eventscorp gets top public service award

State government tourism and events agency, Eventscorp, has been awarded this year's Premier's Award for Excellence in Public Sector Management for the Busselton Ironman.

Eventscorp, a division of Tourism Western Australia, has received the 2009 Premier's Award for Excellence in Public Sector Management for 'Busselton Ironman'.

Eventscorp's entry highlighted the role it has played in building the Busselton Ironman Triathlon into one of WA's premier regional events through financial support, research, marketing and promotion of the event.

Twenty-one separate government agencies and related organisations were honoured last night at the 14th annual Premier's Awards for Excellence in Public Sector Management hosted by Premier Colin Barnett.

In addition to the overall winner, one special award for innovation was presented to Horizon Power for their 'Essential Services Officer' project.

Five category winners were also presented with their certificates along with nine other finalists. The categories seek to reflect the goals and aims of the State Government:


Developing the Economy Category

Winner: Swan TAFE for 'Transforming Trade Training - A Training Revolution'


Improving Government Category

Winner: Horizon Power for 'Essential Services Officer- Aboriginal Communities Training'


Managing the Environment Category

Winner: Edith Cowan University for 'Sustainable Communities'

 

Revitalising the Regions Category

Winner: Eventscorp, a division of Tourism Western Australia for 'Busselton Ironman'

 

Strengthening Families and Communities Category

Winner: Department of Sport and Recreation, City of Stirling and Office of Multicultural Interests for 'The Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) Youth Sport, Recreation and Leisure Project'.

The Premier's Awards were established in 1996 to formally recognise and reward the achievement of excellence in management practice by Western Australian Public Sector agencies. They aim to stimulate highly innovative projects and displays of creative leadership leading to better service to the community.

This year, 64 entries were received from the public sector and private agencies, including public sector departments, statutory authorities, local governments, hospitals and regional offices.
