Eco Beach wins four awards in North West

The owner of popular nature-based accommodation provider Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat was unsure which categories his business had entered before winning four separate awards at the Australia's North West Tourism Awards held last night.

Eco Beach was presented with the Ecotourism, Cultural Tourism and New Product Development awards at the annual event, which took place just four days after the 10th anniversary of Cyclone Rosita which destroyed the original Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat.

Eco Beach managing director and owner, Karl Plunkett topped off the celebrations, winning the Individual Award for Excellence for his commitment and dedication which has seen many beneficial industry and community developments initiated in the Kimberley.

Mr Plunkett was rapt with the result, especially as he was unaware exactly which awards Eco Beach had been entered.

"I've been so busy, so our marketing girl did the submission," he said.

"So I didn't know what we'd entered into.

"I'm pretty blown away."

Mr Plunkett previously told WA Business News the Eco Beach 25 villas and 30 safari-style eco tents were in great demand from both leisure travellers and members of the corporate market.

"It's for people who want something different or unusual," Mr Plunkett said.

"I think it's the most spectacular conference destination in Australia with its views and the 12 kilometres of white sand beaches."

He said the hotel has recently added a 50-foot sailing catarmaran for guests to utilise on the local waters.

"They can sail across the bay for a day, so it really adds to the overall experience and adds to that remote feeling," he said.

Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat Multi Award Winners!
The Australia's North West Tourism Awards were held last night and Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat became MULTI AWARD WINNERS taking out the Ecotourism, Cultural Tourism and New Product Development awards at the prestigious annual event.

This comes just 4 days after the 10th anniversary of Cyclone Rosita which destroyed the original Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat.

The category 5 tropical cyclone, the most powerful cyclone ever to cross the Australian coast, hit on the 19th April 2000 decimating the original resort.

At the end of May last year Eco Beach Wilderness Retreat reopened, the new retreat features stunning villas, luxury tents, an infinity edge pool and an awe inspiring ocean front bar and restaurant.

It has been designed in such a way that there is absolute minimal impact on its breathtaking natural surrounds and is certainly one of the world's most remarkable destinations.

To top off the celebrations, the Individual Award for Excellence was won by Managing Director Karl Plunkett whose commitment and dedication has seen many beneficial industry and community developments initiated in the Kimberley region of Western Australia.
