Multiplex has been awarded the construction contract for a $48 million science building at Edith Cowan University’s Joondalup campus.

The five-level facility will include 2,500 square metres of laboratory space over two floors and a further 3,600sqm over two floors for cyber security research and training.

The building is set to be complete by the start of semester one in 2020.

Multiplex’s recently completed projects include Optus Stadium, Capital Square, and the fitouts for the Woodside headquarters and Telethon Kids Institute.

The construction firm’s current projects include the Karrinyup Shopping Centre Redevelopment and the New Museum for WA.

The ECU facility was designed by West Perth-based Silver Thomas Hanley, which specialises in health, science and research facilities.

The building’s façade will feature the elements of the periodic table.

ECU vice-chancellor Steve Chapman said the new building would give the university’s students access to these specialist laboratories for the first time.

“ECU is continuing to invest in new facilities to provide the best possible learning experience for our students,” Professor Chapman said.
