Downer recruits John Sheridan

Engineering and contracting group Downer EDI has recruited John Sheridan as Chief Operating Officer, Downer Australia West, following an internal restructuring.

Mr Sheridan was previously managing director of Singapore-listed and Perth-based fabrication and construction contractor AGC-AusGroup.

Prior to joining AusGroup, he spent 16 years at Clough, most recently as CEO of its Indonesian operations.

His appointment follows a restructure at Downer EDI, which has brought together its Australian Engineering, Works and Emerging Sectors businesses into one division – Downer Australia.

Downer Australia is the largest division within Downer EDI, accounting for about half of group revenue.

It is made up of Downer Australia West, run by Mr Sheridan, plus Downer Australia East and Specialist Services.

Downer EDI’s other divisions include a contract mining business and a rail business.

AusGroup founder Stuart Kenny returned as managing director after Mr Sheridan left earlier this year.
