AN agreement between hotel operators Park Plaza International and local apartment developers Starboot will create new accommodation for Perth visitors and increased options for potential apartment investors.
Park Plaza and Starboot have joined forces to operate a new serviced apartments hotel at Starboot’s Neo Apartments in central Perth.
To be branded as Gateway Suites Perth, the Victoria Avenue property presents visitors with a different style of accommodation to that of a traditional hotel room and offers potential buyers a third option, according Park Plaza senior vice-president of operations, Kerry Bielik.
“They will be able to live in it, rent it out through traditional channels or enter into a letting agreement with Park Plaza, who will use it as part of a serviced apartment hotel operation,” Mr Bielik said.
Gateway Suites Perth will open later this month with more than half of the 76 studio, one and two bedroom apartments in the complex available.
Mr Bielik is confident of adding more apartments to the operation when apartments become available for buyers to take up Park Plaza’s offer.
“Many of the apartments have not been sold and, when these apartments are put on the market for sale, we anticipate some buyers adding their unit to the Gateway Suites apartments” he said.
Mr Bielik was confident of Gateway’s success as it was based on a similar, and highly successful, operation in Melbourne.
“Things always depend very much on market conditions and we are fairly confident of the Perth market because we believe it has bottomed out and is now fast improving,” Mr Bielik said.
“The deal reflects an emerging trend towards owners and operators combining assets and skills to provide innovative accommodation options for travellers.”
The serviced apartments would be geared toward Perth visitors who preferred the space and self-catering facilities the Gateways Suites would provide.
“The apartments will be perfect for travelling families who want more than just a hotel bedroom, or executives who have been relocated for a long period of time,” Mr Bielik said.
“The apartments provide all the facilities needed but not necessarily the on-tap services one would expect at a hotel, which some visitors often do not require”
Along with standard amenities, each apartment features its own kitchen, laundry and modem access for Internet devices.
