Construction and engineering firm Decmil Group has won a $30 million contract with Rio Tinto to construct workshops and other minesite facilities in the Pilbara.

The works will comprise construction of a heavy vehicle workshop, a first aid building, a security gate house, a communications hut and a radio base station facility.

Chief executive Scott Criddle said the deal provided confirmation that despite a slowdown in the sector, the company was still able to source new work.

“We anticipate commencing this work in January 2013 and expect it to be complete by September,” Mr Criddle said.

The contract was awarded under Decmil’s five-year framework agreement signed with Rio Tinto in February this year.

At 11:45AM, WST, Decmil shares were down 1.2 per cent, trading at $2.34.
