Deal next step for DSL services

AMCOM Telecommunications Ltd has joined forces with NEC Australia and broadband supplier Nextep to begin offering DSL services to Perth.

Amcom owns an extensive fibre optic network in Perth as well as a 26 per cent stake in Amcom IP1, a company that is laying a multi-gigabit fibre optic cable across Australia. The company has focused on selling access to its network to medium and larger businesses, but with the move to sell DSL, hopes to attract smaller companies.

In doing this, Amcom says it will expand its revenues without having to outlay additional capital expenditure. Nextep will provide equipment and labour for the installation of DSL equipment, while Amcom’s contribution to the deal is the use of its fibre optic network as a backbone. Amcom will sell access to DSL as a premium business-grade service.
