DIY ad planning

LOCAL advertising company Breakthrough Corporation has developed a do-it-yourself advertising strategy and planning pack for small business owners.

Managing director Rudy Labordus, who developed the pack, said it was effective because it was user-friendly.

“I didn’t want to write a book because small business owners don’t have the time to sit and read it and wade through to what is relevant,” he said.

“Having three different decks of cards, which you lay out over a three-by-three grid on a board helps, people to laterally thing about advertising and to brainstorm ideas.”

Three different sets of cards (media, offer and power words) contain descriptions and suggested use that, when combined, offer 125,000 possible advertising strategies.

“Small business owners are time strapped. If they attempt any advertising its usually copying a competitor and they then wonder why it didn’t work,” Mr Labordus said.

He said the idea for Adpack followed discussions with a number of small businesses, many of which indicated their budgets fell short of professional work.

“There is a whole market out there of small business owners that need help. They are people that are good at something and do that as their business but they are not that good at advertising and it’s usually because they are time poor,” Mr Labordus said.
