Curtin opens Midland campus

Curtin University has officially opened its Midland campus, part of the Metropolitan Redevelopment Authority’s plan to reposition the former railway workshops as a medical and education hub.

The campus, designed by Lyons Architecture with additional public art created by artist Justin Martin in collaboration with Milne & Stonehouse, was partially funded by the state government, which committed $22 million in funding and reserved land to the project.

Serving the university’s medical and health science students, Member for Midland Michelle Roberts said the campus would increase access to tertiary education for students in Perth’s eastern suburbs.

“I hope this is the beginning of significant growth and opportunities for tertiary education in Midland,” she said.

“The establishment of this campus continues the transformation of Midland into an important hub in eastern Perth.”

Curtin University Vice Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said the campus would play a key role in facilitating effective relationships with other health services and community agencies in Perth.

“The new campus represents exemplary standards in learning and teaching and further cements the university’s place as a leader in education and research,” she said.

“It will bring higher education to the Midland area for the first time, benefiting businesses and broader communities in the region.”

In addition to its Midland campus, Curtin maintains a regional campus in Kalgoorlie, as well as four global campuses in Malaysia, Singapore, Dubai and Mauritius.
