Engineering and construction contractor Civmec opened its $20 million office at its headquarters in Henderson today as the company prepares to expand its workforce by 30 per cent.

The 6,500 square metre, four-storey facility, which was officially opened by Civmec chief executive Pat Tallon and Premier Colin Barnett, forms part of the company’s growth plans as it anticipates adding an extra 500 jobs by June, increasing its workforce to 1,700.

Mr Tallon said the company had achieved a fair element of success since it was established in 2009 and that, without sounding cocky, the company could be proud of its achievements.

Civmec, which is listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, has an order book worth S$392 million ($334 million) and includes contracts on Rio Tinto's Yandi iron ore mine, Chevron’s Gorgon natural gas project, Inpex’s Ichthys liquefied natural gas project and the Perth International Airport.

The company specialises in heavy engineering, precast concrete, modularisation and civil site works and operates primarily out of its 120,000 square metre site in the Australian Marine Complex industrial zone in Henderson, but also has operations in Onslow and Darwin.

The company reported a 19 per cent increase in net profit after tax of S$36 million for the past financial year from revenue of S$406 million.

Mr Tallon said Civmec was also expecting to open its multi-million dollar surface treatment facility within weeks which will allow the company to coat its finished fabrication products onsite.

Premier Barnett said Civmec’s decision to build the $20 million office facility showed the company’s confidence in the market.
