City parking still concerns

CAR parking is still an issue for developments around the Perth CBD.

Even though a proposal to build a thirteen-apartment complex at with an attached eating house 49 Colin Street was recently approved, concerns were raised about the lack of parking.

The applicants had proposed seventeen on-site car bays. However, because of the addition of the eatery to the development, forty-four bays are required under the City Planning Scheme.

Although the lack of parking was a concern because Colin Street is a busy thoroughfare during the day, council does have a 200-bay car park near by.

Councillor Laurance Goodman said it had been PCC policy for many years to not make eating houses supply the full complement of car parking.

“If we imposed such a requirement on this development it will be totally different to what we’ve done for other restaurants around Perth,” Mr Good-man said.
