Challenge guarantees bug fix

CHALLENGE Bank and its eastern states parent Westpac are sending their customers a written guarantee that Y2K will not affect the safety of their money or the banks’ ability to keep accurate financial records.

Westpac was a founding member and is currently Australian representative of the Global 2000 Coordinating Group. The group has granted Australia an ‘all-green’ rating, the highest stamp of approval of Y2K readiness.

Westpac managing director and CEO David Morgan said the banks had tested internally and externally, with other banks, with many major customers and all suppliers.

However, Mr Morgan said the guarantee could not preclude delays or interruptions.
