Howard Park, one of the state’s most awarded wine producers, has snared a gold medal at the 2005 International San Francisco Wine Competition.

Its Leston Shiraz, which claimed the prize, is sourced from just one place – the Leston vineyard on Howard Park’s Margaret River property.

The wine forms one of four single-estate range wines, marketed to consumers wanting to appreciate the differences between premium Great Southern and Margaret River regions.

Of 4,000 entrants from more than 20 countries, the Leston was the only Western Australian wine to receive a medal in the shiraz category.

Howard Park’s award is not the only notably successful WA wine of late.

Congratulations go to Garry Gosatti and his winemaking team at Arlewood Estate in Margaret River after the Arlewood cabernet sauvignon 2001 won best wine at an Australia-wide wine tasting by Gourmet Traveller.

Mention also has to be made to relative new-comers Woodside Valley Estate in Margaret River after its 2002 Bissy merlot was named among the best merlots tasted by Winestate Magazine in its 2005 edition.
