Mining contractor Barminco has announced the recruitment of Thiess executive general manager Paul Muller as its new chief executive, succeeding Peter Stokes who resigned last month.

Mr Muller will begin in his new role in December after serving out a notice period with Thiess.

The incoming CEO has previously held general manager positions at Leighton Contractors (now CPB Contractors, which is part of CIMIC Group) and BHP Billiton’s iron ore division, and was also previously managing director at Consolidated Minerals’ Australian business.

“Paul’s proven experience in leadership positions at both owner-operator and contract mining operations here in Australia and abroad made him a standout choice during our executive search process,” Barminco chairman Keith Gordon said.

“I am delighted to welcome Paul and look forward to him joining Barminco’s high quality management team to drive further improvements across the business.

Barminco is well placed for growth in FY18, given our industry-leading safety performance, recent bond re-financing, and contract renewals secured at key projects, and we look forward to working with Paul in capturing these opportunities.”
