BGC wins $114m of work in Qld

The mining and civil division of Perth-based BGC has won two contracts for work in Queensland, worth a combined $114 million.

BGC Contracting has received a $97 million contract to provide mining services at Incitec Pivot’s Phosphate Hill project

Under the five-year contract, BGC will feed the ammonium phosphate fertiliser manufacturing plant at the site, with work beginning in October.

“We plan to introduce a number of innovations to the Phosphate Hill mining operations, including satellite guided excavations and new mining methodologies,” BGC Contracting chief executive Greg Heylen said.

“In addition to a strong balance sheet to provide the required mining fleet, I believe our proven industry benchmark safety culture, performance and commitment to innovation proved to be an attractive formula for our client.”

BGC also picked up a $17 million contract to support the restarting of operations at Resolute Mining’s Nolans East gold mine.

BGC will provide drilling, blasting, excavating, ore and waste haulage, engineering services and general mine site management under the contract, with work set to begin next month and run through to November next year.

Mr Heylen said the company was developing strong relations in the gold sector.

“These two successful awards were part of a strategy to diversify into commodities beyond iron ore mining and into new geographical regions outside Western Australia and South Australia,” he said.

“These are important strategic wins for BGC Contracting as they fit well with our broader growth and diversification strategies.”
