BGC signs bricks deal

LEN Buckeridge’s BGC group has achieved substantial progress this month on two of the three delayed projects that prompted Mr Buckeridge to announce plans to break up and sell his business empire. BGC signed a deal with Westralia Airports Corporation last Friday to sub-lease 31 hectares of land at Hazelmere for its planned brickworks. And earlier this month it gained conditional environmental approval for expansion of its granite quarry at The Lakes, east of Perth. The third project, still mired in the planning approvals process, is a private port at Cockburn Sound (see article this page). Development of the $75 million brickworks is subject to Federal Government approval as the land is owned by the Commonwealth, but is not subject to State Government approvals. Westralia says the deal is conditional on BGC meeting “the required environmental safeguards”.
