Our online weekly appointments wrap includes Gary Newcombe, Lanie Chopping, Jeffrey Effendi, Kosta Lucas, Essie Zar, Christine Garcia, Tim Marney, Kyle Lyons, Chris Bath and Christopher Knee.

Gary Newcombe will be the new WA commissioner for Consumer Protection, replacing Lanie Chopping. Mr Newcombe has served for 21 years as a director with Consumer Protection, including numerous periods in the commissioner’s role. During this time, he led the establishment of Consumer Protection’s consumer education program, the implementation of FuelWatch, and the development and implementation of the Australian Consumer Law in WA.

Strategy and design consultancy DrawHistory has hired several new employees. Jeffrey Effendi is re-joining the agency after a stint at Google. Kosta Lucas, who researches violent extremism and its prevention, will be head of community practice, and former Wikimedia Foundation global brand manager Essie Zar will be head of brand. Christine Garcia has been appointed head of communications and PR.

Tim Marney has been promoted to chief economist at Nous Group to work alongside current chief economist Steve Corcoran. Mr Marney brings to the role more than a decade of experience as WA’s undertreasurer. He also worked for five years as the state’s mental health commissioner. He was appointed as a principal at Nous in 2019.

Hospitality and brewing group Triple-1-Three has announced the promotion of Kyle Lyons to head of sales at Otherside Brewing Co. Mr Lyons has been with Otherside since its inception, in 2017. He most recently was head of sales for coffee brand Darkstar. Mr Lyons has significant hospitality experience, having worked in venues including Bathers Beach House, The Monk and Salt on the Beach in WA.

Chris Bath has been appointed chief financial officer at Matador Mining, replacing Chris Knee. Mr Bath is a chartered accountant who has spent more than 20 years’ experience in senior financial roles in the energy and resources sectors including at Verona Capital, Tap Oil and Oilex.
