Construction of two aged care facilities in Perth's southern suburbs will begin, with Absecon and Adco Constructions recently winning contracts for the work.

Aegis Aged Care Group has awarded the contract for the construction of the Amherst aged care facility in Canning Vale to Absecon, a division of Pyramid Group.

The project is valued at about $30 million, according to DAP agenda documents from March last year.

The plans outlined in those documents were for two three-storey buildings — a 133-bed facility split between low, high, and dementia-care wards, and an over-55s apartment complex containing 40 two-bedroom apartments, and five three-bedroom apartments.

Regis Aged Care’s new Port Coogee facility will be built by Adco under a contract advertised last year in the range of $20 million to $30 million.

Business News reported in May last year that Regis had received development approval for a six-storey, 153-single bedroom residential aged care facility on the 3,800 square metre site.

The Regis website now states it will be a 120-place facility.

Along with a dementia-specific area, the building will also contain an on-site cafe, day spa, library, cinema, and hair salon.
