Perth could soon be home to the world’s tallest timber building, after Victoria-based Grange Development lodged plans to build a $350 million apartment tower in South Perth.

The C6 Perth development, designed by Elenberg Fraser, would stand at 186.5 metres and comprise 245 apartments, a rooftop bar, food and beverage outlets, nature-themed playgrounds, a cinema and a horticultural zone over 50 storeys.

The exposed timber tower is earmarked for 6 Charles Street, a stone’s throw from the Perth Zoo, and will be constructed using about 7,400 cubic metres of renewable timber technologies.

The renewable timber will make up about 42 per cent of the total structure.

According to Grange Development, the project will be the state’s first carbon-negative building and will be powered exclusively by renewable energy.

Residents will also have access to a fleet of 80 Tesla EVs supported by an embedded power network and a 'tower-to-plate' food and beverage offering with food grown on-site.

The development will include a 2,000 square metre dual-level open-air piazza on the ground and mezzanine levels, which will be open to the general public.

Concept designs of the proposal were released overnight, with Grange Development founder James Dibble confirming the plans had officially been lodged with the City of South Perth council.

The national property development and investment firm, established in 2016, has a portfolio in excess of $2.5 billion.

Grange is currently working with Gurner Group and Costa Property Group to build a $500 million 275-apartment precinct on Stirling Highway in Nedlands.
