‘e-natomy’ platform licensed

WEST Perth-based medical development company Genesis Biomedical Ltd has licensed proprietary Internet-based digital capture and delivery technology to its US associate Bodyworks Inc.

Genesis has been developing a technology platform it describes as ‘e-natomy’ that allows for the digital capture of anatomical information and its transmission through the Internet.

The company has licensed to Bodyworks a specific application called e-cast that allows ortho-paedic surgeons and hospitals to take digital images of patients’ joints and place electronic orders for custom-made orthopaedic braces over the Internet.

Genesis chairman Saliba Sassine said e-cast would help health

professionals reduce costs, increase measurement accuracy and reduce the time taken to supply custom-made devices.

The use of digital imagery removes the need for physical measurement and plaster casting.

At the manufacturing stage, precise measurements can be extracted manually or by 3D computer software to an accuracy of 0.75mm and these are used as an aid to produce a more accurate custom fit brace.

Dr Sassine said Bodyworks had been granted a worldwide license to use the e-cast technology in the orthopaedic brace market.

He said the two companies would continue to develop the integration of Genesis smart card-based electrobionic therapies into the braces.
