Investors have welcomed news that Perth-based confectionery company Yowie Group has signed a licensing agreement with the firm behind the popular Angry Birds franchise, to manufacture an Angry Birds-themed candy for the US market.

Yowie will create an Angry Birds chocolate candy with an Angry Birds ‘collectable surprise’ inside, and will distribute it in the US under an initial licensing period of three years, through an agreement with the franchise’s creator, Finnish entertainment media company Rovio Entertainment.

Yowie shares jumped on the news this morning, up 6 per cent, or 6.5 cents, to $1.16 each at 10:30am.

“Angry Birds is one of the most recognisable entertainment franchises in the world and we are pleased Rovio has chosen to partner with Yowie for the US market,” Yowie chairman Wayne Loxton said.
