WOODSIDE shareholders at the company’s annual general meeting in Sydney were the first this week to hear a farewell speech from managing director John Akehurst.
A carefully worded announcement reported the board thought it “appropriate for a new CEO to join the company now”, and that Mr Akehurst would be paid his current salary and a pro rata short-term incentive “until he leaves the company”.
