Yallingup sisters launch food ordering app

Former reality TV stars and competitive surfers Eliza and Mikaela Greene have entered the food ordering technology market with the launch of their phone application MyTab.

Customers can download the app onto their phones and order food at participating restaurants and cafes to their tables or for pick up without having to interact with waitstaff.

The pair, who appeared on House Rules in 2019, came up with the idea after visiting a venue with similar technology and thinking there was a better way.

“In that moment, Mikaela and I thought how amazing it would be if we created an application where you could order your food and drinks with the touch of your phone and how easy, convenient and contactless that would be,” co-founder and director Eliza Greene told Business News.

The pair spent the next 18 months designing the app and used their savings to fund developers to create it.

Ms Greene said MyTab’s venue application could be downloaded by restaurants and cafes and set up within the day.

“They [hospitality venues] just type in their menu items, upload a photo, provide verification documents and you’re all good to go,” Ms Greene said.

It provides opportunities for hospitality venues during Perth and Peel’s current COVID-19 lockdown, as food can be ordered outside the business for pick up.

“With our application you can sit inside the venue and order food and drinks or you can actually be in your car or at your home and place the order because you don’t have to be inside the venue, it’s location-based,” Ms Greene said. 

“As long as you are 15 kilometres near a venue, you can place an order.”  

MyTab’s main point of difference is that the application charges the customer a flat rate instead of a subscription charge to the venue.

The flat rate sits at 29 cents per order at MyTab's first venue, The Good Egg cafe in Busselton. 

Ms Greene said she hoped the creation of the app would inspire other young women to become involved in technology.

“Not many people would assume two surfer girls who competed professionally before COVID on the qualifying series tour would turn around and create a hospitality application but I think it just goes to show that women shouldn’t be confined,” Ms Greene said.

MyTab is the newest player in the order-at-the-table market, with businesses including Perth outfit Mimu and east coast company me&u having created similar offerings.
