Wyatt to take on Buswell in treasury

Western Australian Labor MP Ben Wyatt, touted as a future party leader, has been chosen to take on Treasurer Troy Buswell in the state's new parliament.

Opposition leader Eric Ripper today announced the full allocation of frontbench portfolios with Mr Wyatt also responsible for culture and the arts and federal state relations portfolios.

Deputy Labor leader Roger Cooke, who was elected to parliament at the recent election, will be health spokesman, facing off against Deputy Premier Kim Hames.

Mr Ripper will look after Native Title and public sector management while Jim McGinty will be shadow attorney-general.

Kate Doust has been named as the shadow minister for energy, and science and innovation, while Michelle Roberts will take on Liberal MP Liz Constable in education.

Alannah MacTiernan is shadow minister for regional development, strategic infrastructure and climate change and Fran Logan takes on water, consumer protection and industrial relations.

Jon Ford is shadow minister for mines and Mark McGowan, who unsuccessfully put his hand up for the deputy leadership positi0on, has been allocated the state development, trade, planning and housing and works portfolios.

In unveiling his shadow ministry today, Mr Ripper said the Labor Party had left the state with a strong economy and impeccable finances after delivering the biggest capital works program in the State's history.

"There can be no excuses for the Government not delivering to the community," Mr Ripper said.

He added that he was delighted with Labor's able and energetic team which was more than capable of taking on the government.

"I've sought to match people's skills and interests with the opportunities available," he said.
