One of Western Australia’s largest gold mines has been forced to shut down after a safety incident involving one of Saracen Mineral Holdings’ underground miners.
Saracen placed its shares in a trading halt after reporting that one of its workers had “fallen from a height” at the Dervish gold mine, as part of the company’s Carosue Dam operations.
The incident has been reported to the Department of Mines Industry Regulation and Safety, which has sent out representatives to the mine site, south of Laverton.
Saracen has suspended its Carosue Dam operations – including its Dervish gold mine – until the full investigation is complete.
The condition of the worker is not yet known.
