A worker has died in an accident at Consolidated Minerals' Woodie Woodie manganese mine in the Pilbara.

The Department of Mines and Petroleum has confirmed that the worker was employed by contract company Rod Mitchell Transport and Exploration.

“The accident involved a fitter who was working a dozer being used to clear land for exploration drilling,” DMP director of mine safety Andrew Chaplyn said.

Two DMP inspectors have been immediately diverted to the mine site, while two more inspectors will travel to the site tomorrow to investigate the incident.

Consolidated released a brief statement saying the police were currently investigating the contractor’s death and was contacting family members of the deceased.

Managing director Paul Muller said it was a very sad occurrence.

“Our thoughts go out to the family, friends and work mates of the person involved,” he said.
