Work starts on $30m Kalgoorlie college revamp

Work has begun on a $30 million redevelopment of student accommodation venue Agricola College in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, partly funded by the state government’s Royalties for Regions scheme.
Training and Workforce Development Minister Terry Redman was on hand in Kalgoorlie today to officially turn the first sod at the site.
The college provides accommodation for students training at Curtin University’s Western Australian School of Mines and the Goldfields Institute of Technology.
The redevelopment will provide 180 new rooms, expanding the college’s capacity to 228.
“This project is a significant way of supporting industry training as well as the region and the people who study here,” Dr Hames said.
The project has received $20 million in funding from the Royalties for Regions scheme.
Construction is expected to be complete by 2017.
