The Note has admitted loving a gimmick or a catch, so hats off to the state government and Austrade which managed to tie in an Australian wine promotion in the US with the 25th anniversary of the America’s Cup win by Alan Bond (pictured, in better days). Among a series of tastings of premium South West wines around the US will be a San Diego-based wine dinner held aboard Dennis Conner’s America yacht on September 15 to coincide with Boxing Kanagroo’s big win. It’s a Monday night, so the Note suggests Austrade shows a video of the celebratory then prime minister Bob Hawke who told Australia: “Any boss who sacks a worker for not turning up today is a bum”. That should allow the American guests to get into the spirit of a good Aussie wine tasting and appreciate how important that fleetingly grasped cup was to us.
