Wavenet makes European connection

Burswood-based Wavenet International Ltd has broken into the European market with an order from Netherlands-based RAM Mobile Data for modems for operation on its private Mobitex network.

Wavenet CEO Richard Timms said the order, which was valued at $200,000, was a valuable entry to the European market and enhanced Wavenet’s geographic and customer diversity.

“Wavenet is one of the few large scale modem manufacturers for Mobitex products with a unique product mix, which sets it apart from many of its competitors,” he said.

Wavenet’s modems will be used for vehicle tracking and machine-to-machine communications such as point-of-sale and meter reading devices. The Wavenet modems will comply with the current European standard for restriction of hazard-ous substances, known as the RoHS directive.

“There are numerous private Mobitex networks operating throughout the world, including the UK, France, Asia and Australia,” Mr Timms said. “We are hopeful this initial order is successful and will lead to further sales in the European and other markets.”

Last month, the company secured an order valued at about $3 million for its Wombat vehicle modems. At the time, Mr Timms said the order put Wavenet in a strong position for the upcoming financial year with an orderbook in excess of $5 million.

That order comes from GeoLogic Solutions, a leading provider of intelligent truck fleet management solutions.
