Terry ‘Tuck’ Waldron has stepped down as chair of the Western Australian Cricket Association after three years in the role due to a severe decline in his mental health.

According to a statement issued by the WACA, Mr Waldron announced his resignation to his fellow board members at a monthly meeting on Tuesday night.

The former Minister for Sport and Recreation shared that he had been suffering from anxiety and depression in recent months and that it had since reached a critical point, the sporting body reported.

“WACA Chair and Member Elected Director Hon. Terry (Tuck) Waldron has announced his resignation due to a severe decline in his mental health,” a statement from the WACA read.

“Waldron shared the news with the WACA Board on Tuesday night (6 September) at a monthly meeting and expressed that he has been suffering from anxiety and depression over the past few months and it is now at a critical point.”

The board said it was working on a process of appointing an interim chair and that further details would be shared in due course.

Mr Waldron’s resignation comes three years since he was appointed chair in September 2019, though he first joined the board in 2017.
