WA's new car sales below national trend

New motor vehicle sales in Western Australia, which rose by more than two per cent, seasonally adjusted, in December, were slightly lower than the national gains of more than three per cent, climbing to 89,741 units.

Western Australian new motor vehicle sales rose by 2.6 per cent, seasonally adjusted, to 9,088 units in December, from an upwardly revised 8,858 units in November, the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) said on Thursday.

Tasmania posted an incredible jump of 17.8 per cent, seasonally adjusted, with New South Wales and Queensland both increasing the number of new motor vehicle sales by 5.5 per cent.

South Australia managed to increase sales by 4.5 per cent.

Victoria (down 1.3 per cent) joined the Northern Territory (down 9.3 per cent) and the ACT (down almost 1 per cent) as the only states and territories to record seasonally adjusted falls in the sale of new motor vehicles.
