WA Symphony Orchestra (WASO) has announced the appointment of Perth soprano Sara Macliver to its board of directors.

The appointment of Ms Macliver comes one month after WASO announced an increase in operating revenue from $5.9 million in 2017 to $6.4 million 2018.

It is the state’s only professional orchestra and regularly performs with the WA Opera and WA Ballet at the Perth Concert Hall.

WASO chairman Richard Goyder said he is looking forward to working with Ms Macliver.

“Sara is a familiar face both on and off the stage and will bring considerable experience and artistic insight to the board’s deliberations,” he said.

Ms Macliver's appointment means the WASO board will have eight members.

As well as Mr Goyder, it includes former chair Janet Holmes a Court, Woodside executive Meg O'Neill and former Wesfarmer's executive Keith Kessell
