WA women write management seller

Three WA women have written a book on small business management that has its publishers McGraw Hill already considering another print run before Christmas.

The book, Guide to Managing a Successful Small Business in Australia, written by Regina Gaujers, Julie-Ann Harper and Jennifer Browne had its beginning in a set of training modules and a bottle of red wine.

Ms Harper had prepared a set of training modules she used in her small business courses.

“A lot of accountants and business people were saying they wanted the information in the modules without the training material attached,” she said.

The three came together and produced the book, funding an initial run of 200 books that drew great response.

The content was short-listed in the 1998 Australian Excel-lence in Education Publishing Awards.

Dr Browne said they were approached by McGraw Hill.

Ms Harper said the publisher liked the book because of its practical rather than academic basis.

“All the feedback we received from business people, we incorporated into the book,” she said.

“It came about from the needs of small business people who did not have time to do a course.

“McGraw Hill also felt it was a good way to target the women in business market.

“This is the only book of its kind written by women.”

Dr Browne said McGraw Hill was asking them how quickly they could put together a second edition including the Ralph Review and GST.

The updated edition is expected in February.

The women now plan to produce a small business series.
