WA projects secure $4.8m in clean-energy funding

Three Western Australian projects with a focus on clean energy technology, including an artificial reef in Exmouth, will share in $4.8 million funding announced by National Energy Resources Australia (Nera) today.

Nera has approved funding for eight projects across Australia that aim to provide sustainable energy.

Among the WA projects is Subcon Technologies’ Exmouth integrated artificial reef prototype, which is using offshore structures to create a purpose-built reef.

Nera and the University of Western Australia are progressing plans for the LNG futures facility-a national, open-access resource providing direct benefits to Australian industry and researchers across the energy resources sector.

Carnegie Clean Energy and Eni Australia also received funding for their project that aims to maintain system security through the integration of renewable energy technology at the Blacktip Wellhead Platform in the Timor Sea.

Nera chief executive Miranda Taylor said the new projects supported Nera’s goal towards maximising value to the Australian economy through an energy resources sector that was sustainable, innovative and diverse.

“With Australia’s energy sector increasingly under pressure from volatile commodity prices and a rapidly evolving global energy mix, it is vital we transform the way our industry operates to stay competitive,” she said.

“We were thrilled by the positive response to our search for clean technology projects.

“These initiatives will provide economic and environmental benefits to the end user through innovation and industry partnerships.”
