WA govt awards $40m of schools contracts

The state government has awarded three major school construction contracts, with Crothers Construction receiving two and EMCO Building the other.

Crothers secured a $15.7 million contract to construct new facilities at Broome Senior High School.

These include a general learning and technology block, additions to the existing food technology building, and conversion of two existing classrooms and seminar room into two chemistry labs and store rooms.

In addition, Crothers will remove and relocate existing transportable buildings, and undertake extensive landscaping, car parking and external works.

It beat four other submissions to secure the contract, which will run until September 2020.

The construction firm also secured an $11.6 million contract for additions and alterations at the Yanchep Lagoon Primary School.

The contract includes demolishing some existing structures and building a kindergarten and pre-primary block, two teaching blocks, bike racks and parking in the first stage of works.

The works also encompass the construction of a library, covered assembly area, bird cage, staff car park and visitor parking.

There were five other submissions vying for the contract, which will run until the end of March 2021.

EMCO also won a contract at a Yanchep school, after it was awarded the $12.2 million stage two construction contract at Yanchep Secondary college.

Stage two will comprise of a commercial kitchen and café, as well as an arts centre for visual and performing arts.
