WA governor to stay for another 2 years

Premier Alan Carpenter today announced that the appointment of governor Ken Michael has been extended for a further two years.

Mr Carpenter said Dr Michael was making an outstanding contribution towards public life in his role as Western Australia's Governor.

"The Governor and Mrs Michael have performed their duties and responsibilities with distinction," the Premier said.

"I am pleased that Dr Michael has agreed to continue his good work for another term as Governor."

Dr Michael began his appointment in January 2006, following a long and distinguished career in the Public Service.

At the time of his appointment, Dr Michael was Chancellor of The University of Western Australia, chairman of the East Perth Redevelopment Authority, chairman of the WA Museum and a member of the Economic Regulation Authority.

He was formerly Commissioner of Main Roads, Public Service Commissioner, WA independent Gas Pipelines Access Regulator, Acting WA Independent Rail Access Regulator and chairman of Commissioners for the City of Albany, also Town and Shire of Albany.
