WA corporate loans to less fortunate

SOME of Western Australia’s largest corporations are putting the weight behind United Way WA’s Loaned Representative Program.

The program, the first of its kind in WA, involves companies ‘loaning’ staff to act as ambassadors for United Way – encouraging businesses to pledge their support and help less fortunate Western Australians.

Staff from Ernst & Young, Wesfarmers and HBF will kick-start the program with support for the program coming from Linc Integrated, Scitech and the Australian Institute of Management.

United Way vice-chairman John Carlson said the program aimed to encourage corporate philanthropy in WA.

"Many companies don’t realise how easy it is to support charitable causes," he said.

"If just 10 per cent of the Australian workforce donated $2 a week out of their pay packet, an additional $200 million a year would flow into charities and, subsequently, the Australian community."
