Perth-based exploration company Ventnor Resources has struck gold at its Black Dragon project north of Kalgoorlie.

In a statement today, Ventnor said visible gold had been observed in drill samples at the project, which lies next to the AngloGold Ashanti and Independence Group-owned Tropicana gold mine.

The news sent Ventnor shares soaring by 20.9 per cent to 5.2 cents at the close of trade.

About 33 reverse cycle drill holes were completed at Black Dragon for 2,492 metres of drilling.

Managing director Bruce Maluish said it was encouraging to see visible gold in the samples at an early stage of the project.

“It supports the geological assumptions we are testing in the Black Dragon exploration program so far,” he said.

The results come less than a month after Ventnor began drilling at the project.
