A $5.7 MILLION research and development program launched in 2007 has paid dividends for Canning Vale-based Veem Limited, which won this year's Most Innovative Marine Industry Exported Product category at the Australian Marine Industry Export Awards.

Veem, which has been making propellers for more than 50 years, was recognised for its "revolutionary" interceptor technology that enables all vessels to be launched with the correct propeller every time, by attaining the correct engine revs and load without the need to change or modify the propellers.

The interceptor allows changes to the pitch propeller without removal from the vessel by using different height interceptor strips to adjust the effective pitch of the propeller.

Veem director of marine propulsion, Brad Miocevich, said it was humbling to be acknowledged by some of the most experienced experts in the marine industry.

"The award is recognition of the hard work we put into the interceptor and the impact of that now is that it gives us credibility for the product in the marketplace," he told WA Business News.

He said the company's exhaustive R&D program had developed advanced and flexible manufacturing technology, which allowed for short lead times and an infinite size range available to meet any client's unique requirements.
