VDM JV wins $32m Qld port contract

VDM Group Limited has announced that its its joint venture partner, has been recommended as the preferred contractor by Ports Corporation of Queensland on the Abbot Point stacker and load-out facility.

VDM's subsidiary, Civmec Construction & Engineering Pty Ltd, will work with its 50% joint venture partner Civdec Constructions Pty Ltd (not associated with Civmec and the VDM Group) to deliver the project valued in excess of $32 million project. The expansion of the Abbot Point facility has been approved by the Board of PCQ and is only waiting on the Queensland State Government final approval.

VDM Group's Chief Operating Officer - Construction Division, Stuart Cuthbert, said that he was delighted that Civmec and its joint venture partner have been chosen as the preferred contractor.

"Civmec has a strong track record of successfully completing large earthworks and concrete projects. We have been looking for appropriate opportunities to establish a presence in Queensland and this project fully capitalises on the state's mining and resource opportunities."

"The Abbot Point project provides Civmec with the opportunity of establishing a Civmec Queensland branch office which would be able to work alongside the other VDM Group companies operating in Queensland; namely, Burchill Partners and VDM (QLD)."
