PERTH’S new UWA and AIM Senior Management Centre was a ground-breaking initiative for education and business in WA and probably the first of its kind in Australia, according to a founder.
University of Western Australia Vice-Chancellor Deryck Schreuder said the centre would meet changing needs of professionals and business.
The centre is a joint venture between UWA and the Australian Institute of Management and will focus on senior management training and development for local, interstate and international managers at the institute’s Floreat facility.
Professor Schreuder said the centre would complement front-line manager training provided by AIM and the undergraduate and post-graduate qualifications provided by UWA.
“We see opportunities for joint research, for expanding the range of international presenters coming to Perth and, above all, for the development of a premier institution specialising in senior management development and training for the Asian and Indian Ocean regions,” he said.
“As it grows the centre will make its own reputation.”
AIM WA president and Wesfarmers Energy managing director David Rob said the centre’s specialised training would add a “key element missing in the marketplace”.
Challenge Bank chief executive officer Tony Howarth will chair the board to run the centre.
Former director of UWA’s Graduate School of Management David Plowman has been appointed managing director.
