UWA names new vice-chancellor

Professor Alan Robson has been named the University of Western Australia vice-chancellor, with the appointment to commence in February 2004.

Currently deputy vice-chancellor, Professor Robson completed his initial degree at Melbourne University before completing a PhD at UWA.

He is an elected fellow of the Australian Academy of Technological Sciences and Engineering and a fellow of the Australian Institute of Agricultural Science.

Professor Robson was also appointed member of the Order of Australia early this year.

He is currently a member of the Premier's Science Council, chair of the Pastoral Lands Board, member of the Australian Universities Teaching Committee and deputy chair of the Council of the National Library of Australia.  Professor Robson has also published numerous journals and books.

He succeeds Professor Deryck Schreuder, who is returning to scholarship.
