UGL joint venture wins Karratha work

A joint venture between UGL and UK company Cape has won a contract to provide services to the Woodside Petroleum-operated Karratha gas plant for an undisclosed sum.
The scope of work involves planning and execution of access, fire protection application, blasting, painting, cladding, insulation, mechanical and electrical services for the gas plant life extension program.
The contract is for a two-year period, with work due to begin early next year.
Woodside operates the Karratha gas plant on behalf of the North West Shelf project participants.
UGL chief executive Ross Taylor said securing the contract further consolidated the company as a leading maintenance services provider.
“When combined with our existing LNG maintenance contracts, our scale in the LNG maintenance sector provides us with a flexible workforce with the capacity and capability to support a near permanent shut down crew; a key value proposition for our customers,” Mr Taylor said.
The Karratha gas plant includes five LNG processing trains, two domestic gas trains, six condensate stabilisation units, three LPG fractionation units, and storage and loading facilities for LNG, LPG and condensate.
It has the capacity to produce about 12,000 tonnes of domestic gas a day.
UGL shares fell 5 per cent to $2.25 each at 10:20am.
