Two miners from Perenti’s Hazelmere-based mining services company Barminco are unaccounted for after an incident at MMG’s Dugald River underground zinc mine in Queensland.

Perth-based Perenti, the owner of underground mining services company Barminco, released a statement that said two team members were currently unaccounted for following an incident at the Dugald River mine site this morning.

“The site emergency response team has been activated and Barminco is working with MMG and relevant authorities,” Perenti said.

“Whilst the situation is still evolving, the team are also focused on providing support to family members and colleagues."

In another statement, owner of the mine MMG said operations at Dugald River had been halted while the search was under way.

"MMG has extended all available resources and support to Barminco and the Dugald River mine," the company said.

The underground mine in Queensland is wholly owned by MMG, which claims it's one of the world’s top 10 zinc operations.

The operation produced zinc concentrate, with by-products including lead and silver.
