Travel talk with Matt Sullivan: L7 Solutions chief executive officer

What is your favourite holiday destination and why? It doesn't sound breathtaking, but Melbourne is my number one frequented place of choice, mainly because of the sport (AFL, tennis etc), arts, restaurants, shopping, and I have a stack of good friends there.

What is your favourite place within WA to take a short break and why? Albany - it is far away enough from the city to feel like you are truly 'away'.

What do you think is the best destination to holiday if you have to/want to take the kids and why? With my four kids and their ages, you can't really go past the Gold Coast to keep them suitably entertained and occupied.

What is your pet hate when travelling on airplanes? Maybe it's just me, but the headphones you get for listening to the movie/music are horrible.

Most of the time there is something wrong; one ear doesn't work, the volume control is not working, one ear is louder, etc...

What has been your biggest travel disaster and what did you learn from it? Flying business class on Royal Brunei and finding out 30 minutes into a seven-hour flight that they don't serve wine or beer was a bit of a disaster.

I learnt to choose the airline carefully after that.

Their service was great, though.

How often do you travel? Is it usually for business or pleasure? I average once per month and it is mainly due to business.

What's always in your carry-on luggage? On the long-haul flights I always slip in a sleeping tablet (just in case) and the iPod packed with '80s music.

Where have you always wanted to travel/holiday but haven't managed to yet? Canada.

What I have seen and heard about the various places in that region really interests me.

What is your favourite interstate/ overseas restaurant/bar? The Shout House in the Gas Lamp quarter of San Diego.

You wish Perth could be more like...

Melbourne, because the city has been built for public access and there are more than two AFL teams.

You hope Perth always retains...

Its laid-back lifestyle, because it is a great place to raise your children.

What was the last book you read? Good to Great by Jim Collins What CD is currently in your car? More One Hit Wonders from the '80s What WA/Perth restaurant do you keep going back to and why? Recent favourite is Opus on Richardson Street in West Perth.

The atmosphere is great and the menu is superb.
