The Tiwest joint venture has reached a production milestone with output of titanium dioxide pigment hitting one million tonnes this month.
The joint venture is one of Western Australia’s major industrial employers, with 700 staff and contractors, and currently generates annual exports worth $400 million.
Its Kwinana plant was established in 1991 and growing demand has led to steady increases in production capacity.
Titanium dioxide pigment is produced from mineral sands in WA and is used in paints, plastics, paper, ink and other consumer products.
The joint venture is owned by Australian company Ticor and US company Kerr-McGee Chemical.
