Tick for three towers

PLANS for an 18-storey retail and office building opposite the Parmelia Hilton on Mill Street have been approved by the City of Perth.

The city last week also approved plans for an eight-level mixed-use building at 1178 Hay Street in West Perth, and an 11-storey mixed-use development at the old Lee Garden Chinese restaurant site on Plain Street in East Perth.

The proposed 18-storey development, designed by HASSELL for property owner Perpetual Nominees, involves demolition of two existing buildings known as the Capita Centre.

The council has imposed 30 conditions on the approval, including the provision of pedestrian links between Mill Street and St Georges Terrace.

Construction will take approximately three years, over three stages, one of which is the refurbishment of the lobby at the adjoining Governor Stirling Tower.

The City of Perth granted a five-year planning approval because existing lease arrangements preclude any redevelopment occurring within the next two years.

At 1178 Hay Street, McDonald Jones Architects has received approval for its design of a $20 million, eight-level mixed-use tower containing two commercial units and 126 units with 190 parking bays.

The site is currently occupied by a four-storey commercial building formerly used as the headquarters of the Country Women's Association of Western Australia, which will be demolished to allow for the new building.

At Plain Street, the $6.5 million, 11-storey development has been designed by SS Chang Architects and is owned by Bright Image Dental.

The architect's plan calls for two commercial tenancies, 29 residential dwellings and associated car parking.
