Analysing and Selecting Shares

On Saturday March 13 the Australian Stock Exchange is conducting a workshop titled Analysing and Selecting Shares at the Conference Centre, Level 8 Exchange Plaza, 2 The Esplanade, Perth.

Topics that will be addressed during the seminar include, introducing fundamental analysis; the top-down approach to market sectors; completing the equation - the bottom-up approach; assessing a new share float; identifying opportunities and expected returns; and introducing technical analysis.

Sakhalin Island Opportunities Workshop

On Tuesday March 16 Austrade is holding a free business opportunities workshop in relation to the Sakhalin Island Oil and Gas Projects in the Russian far east, at the Conference Suite at Level 8, Exchange Plaza, 2 The Esplanade, Perth.

The workshop has been designed to provide a briefing about the Sakhalin Island Project and the opportunities that exist for Western Australian businesses not only involved in the oil and gas industry, but also in areas such as health care, education, environment and tourism.

Areas that will be covered during the workshop include, an outline of current and future oil and gas related projects; potential direct business opportunities in the projects and in meeting the associated infrastructure and service requirements; and details of Austrade's program to help Australian exporters identify and develop business opportunities.

The workshop will feature presentations from Austrade senior trade commissioner for Russia Gregory Klumov, who will give an overview of the project and Austrade trade commissioner for Eastern Russia Vladimir Gavrilyuk, who will discuss the opportunities that are present and how to gain access to them.

How the Courtroom Impacts the Boardroom

On Wednesday March 17 Engineers Australia Western Australian Division in conjunction with The Centre for Engineering Leadership and Management is conducting a luncheon titled How the Courtroom Impacts the Boardroom, at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

The luncheon will feature Chief Justice of Western Australia the Honourable David Malcolm who will address the influence of legal decisions on the operation of business and whether these decisions are trend setters, reflections of community interest, altruistic justice or indifferent analysis of legal precedents.

Lunch with Jeff Fenech

Activ Foundation is holding a corporate fundraising luncheon on Wednesday March 17, titled Jeff Fenech – Fighting for a Cause, in the Grand Ballroom at Burswood International Resort.

Featuring three-time world champion boxer, Jeff Fenech attendees at the luncheon will be inspired as they hear about Jeff's personal interest in intellectual disability through his friend Con, who he used to take around the world with him to his fights and his personal story as he recounts his life as one of Australia's sporting greats.

Perth media personalities Michael Thomson, Adrian Barich and George Grljusich will join Jeff in an entertaining and insightful panel show, and there will also be the opportunity to win some great door prizes and the chance to bid for sporting memorabilia including a signed Danny Green t-shirt.

Nickel Showcase

On Wednesday March 17 the Securities Institute is conducting a luncheon that will showcase nickel production in Western Australia, at the Sheraton Hotel.

Hear what the forecast is for the Nickel and Commodities sector in Western Australia for 2004 from speakers such as Mincor Resources NL managing director David Moore; Titan Resources NL managing director Bill Ryan; Australian Mines Limited managing director Don Boyer; and Independence Group NL managing director Chris Bonwick.

Fringe Benefits Tax Seminar

On Thursday March 18 the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia is running a seminar titled Providing Benefits to Employees – Getting the Fundamentals Right and Avoiding Problems on an FBT Audit, at the Rendezvous Observation City Hotel.

The seminar has been designed to prepare employers for the likely increase in Australian Tax Office Fringe Benefit Tax audit activity and will be presented by Webb Martin state manager Neil Jones.

Topics that will be covered during the seminar include, common problem areas with a variety of benefits (including GST issues); whether it is worthwhile packaging certain items; what must the employer do to avoid FBT problems; opportunities for packaging for particular categories of employees; getting the FBT return form correct; and the ATO's compliance program for 2004.
